Hello, fishing and literature enthusiasts! We’re thrilled to share some fantastic news from the recent 13th Annual Scottsboro Jackson County Rescue Squad Fishing Tournament held at Lake Guntersville. It was a day full of excitement and competitive spirit, and Light Up Literature™ was right in the thick of it!
Our very own Debra Shepherd made headlines by catching the largest bass of the tournament, a monumental feat that not only netted us the first-place prize for the biggest catch of the day but also marked a significant milestone as the first woman ever to win this accolade in the tournament’s history. This victory, coupled with our second-place finish overall, highlights the skill and passion of our team, and especially Debra’s angling prowess.
The Scottsboro fishing tournament is more than just a day of angling—it's a crucial fundraiser for the local rescue squad. Captain Eddie Tigue of the Scottsboro Jackson County Rescue Squad underscored the importance of the event, noting that it supports essential operations such as storm damage response and rescue missions. Over the years, the tournament has raised more than $100,000, a testament to the community’s solidarity and commitment to supporting first responders.
Amidst the celebration of our achievements, we at Light Up Literature™ are particularly excited to announce something special. Building on the theme of integrating passions with educational pursuits, we’re preparing to launch a brand-new Bass Fishing ELA Curriculum tailored for middle school students with ADHD who share a love for fishing. This curriculum promises to engage students by connecting their enthusiasm for bass fishing with educational content, making learning a dynamic and captivating experience.
You might wonder, why combine fishing with literature and education? At Light Up Literature™, we believe in harnessing students' natural interests to enhance their learning experiences. By linking educational content with real-world interests like bass fishing, we aim to spark a greater passion for learning and improve focus, particularly for students who might need a more engaging approach to their studies.
This blend of competition, community support, and innovative educational initiatives is what makes our involvement in events like the Scottsboro fishing tournament so rewarding. As we look forward to rolling out our Bass Fishing ELA Curriculum, we remain committed to our mission of lighting up literature and education in the most engaging ways possible.
Stay tuned for more updates on our curriculum release and other exciting developments.
